Moving Talk -- Writing It Down
A two & half day immersion into writing and improvising with Tony Osborne

In this last Sydney workshop for 2008 you will transform the personal to the fictional by connecting the imaginary to performance impulse.  You will find ways of converting curiosity to craft and of being truthful about your fictions.  This workshop will focus on time in the space of performance and of the imagination.  It is suitable for anyone interested in adventuring into improvised performance and/or writing as a window to inspiration.  Time will be shared between these two elements and they will be used as interactive tools to transform the journal into narrative and to respond to the writing impulse with storylines and performance.

Each session will begin in a moving meditation on the nature of perception, visceral and vocal impulse and the inspirational memory.  Attention will be given to developing somatic consciousness as a powerhouse for generating narrative.  There will be time and space to observe, comment on and write about moving and textual material as it finds expression in scored improvisations.  The playful rigour of these guided explorations will progress into facilitated group, duet and solo performances by and for the other participants.  This will include an awareness of timing, craft and the relationship between the subject and the audience.  We will also explore how our writing can become performative texture.  Positive feed-back will be utilised within the group throughout the day to support and encourage further experimentation in moving narratives.  The day’s activities will be balanced between experiential investigations and writing and solo and group explorations.  Short writing tasks will be set for Friday and Saturday evening.
