Back by popular demand, The Sydney City Youth Ballet has just announced that a full-length ballet production of The Polar Express will be staged, at the Glen Street Theatre from the 9th -14th December 2008.

The production features an original music score written for the Sydney City Youth Ballet, recorded at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with members from the Conservatorium and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. Special Permission from the Publishers in London has been granted and this Christmas fairytale will be brought to life through the work of internationally acclaimed freelance choreographer, Paul Boyd. The Polar Express will be produced and directed by Tanya Pearson and will feature local Sydney students and semi professional dancers including the former Billy Elliot star Nick Twiney.

First established in 1971 and directed by Tanya Pearson, The Sydney City Youth Ballet is Sydney’s sole ballet company. The Youth Company continues to stage productions for school audiences, retirement villages and the general public at theatres throughout Sydney. At 71 years of age, Tanya Pearson is the driving force behind the Youth Ballet and willingly dedicates her time and energy to the talented students who go on to achieve outstanding results around the world. Tanya believes that, “The Sydney City Youth Ballet is an important stepping stone for young dancers who wish to pursue a professional ballet career”. The Sydney City Youth Ballet continues to survive without government or state funding.

We hope, through your support and promotion of this exciting Christmas production, The Polar Express will be a great success and will assist the Sydney City Youth Ballet in surviving another 30 years!
