The National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries invites applications for positions of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Dance Studies, to collaboratively develop dance studies teaching and learning programmes, research and creative practice.

Position Overview:
The National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries is seeking to appoint up to two suitably qualified people with demonstrated ability and experience in the development and implementation of innovative postgraduate and/or undergraduate courses in Dance Studies. Such innovation may be exemplified by interdisciplinary artistic collaborations and teaching and learning or research programmes that critically value the diverse roles of dance within community, educational, artistic, health, cultural, and economical contexts.
The successful applicant/s will have a research track record and/or demonstrated potential to further her or his research profile, and be able to support the development of a research culture. The successful applicant/s will have a postgraduate qualification, preferably at PhD level. The appointee/s will have strong artistic and/or educational portfolios, have a high regard for collegial relationships and a demonstrated ability to work within a team. She or he must have current successful experience in tertiary teaching and in post graduate supervision. The selected candidate/s must demonstrate an energy and enthusiasm that will inspire outstanding artistic, academic and creative outcomes within a dynamic teaching and learning environment.

Job Description
Purpose Statement:
To collaboratively develop the Dance Studies Programme in the areas of research, postgraduate and undergraduate scholarship, creative practice, and curriculum delivery.
Responsible To:
The Dean, National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI) through the Head of the Dance Studies Programme.
Key Accountability Areas:
TEACHING • Undertake undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching • Aid the development of future curriculum • Coordinate and administer the teaching of dance papers • Support the promotion of the Programme to prospective students and the recruitment processes • Initiate student based artistic projects within the programme and the wider community • Integrate research within taught coursework
RESEARCH • Support the development of a strong research culture for the Dance Studies programme; develop inter-disciplinary research initiatives with colleagues in other Schools of the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries and in other faculties of the University • Disseminate knowledge through scholarly research activities and publications • Participate in national and international conferences to advance research interest • Supervise postgraduate students’ research as appropriate
COMMUNITY AND UNIVERSITY SERVICE • Provide support to the academic direction for the Dance Studies programme • Develop strong and relevant links to the professional and wider dance communities in Auckland and nationally • Serve on department committees as required • Observe University policy and codes of practice in all teaching and learning research and administrative processes • Collaborate and communicate so as to build a working environment which encourages teamwork and collegial co-operation • Any other duties within the scope of the role of a lecturer/ senior lecturer as required by the Head of the Programme and/or the Dean.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
A postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in a relevant discipline, coupled with extensive teaching experience, and /or performance and choreography experience.
Experience:
Extensive experience and demonstrated success in teaching a blend of theory and practice within a university context; a research profile with potential for further development; and, evidence of inspiring young people to become engaged learners. A strong research profile, as indicated by international peer reviewed publications, and a PhD is normally necessary for appointment at Senior Lecturer level.
Attributes and Skills:
A well developed knowledge of the tertiary dance environment in New Zealand and /or the Asia - Pacific region. A well established and respected profile as a teacher and a demonstrated commitment to collaborative processes. The applicant/s may have experience in some of the following: somatic education; dance and body conditioning and dance techniques; dance education; community dance; and/or, choreographic research.
