Over the past four years The Australian Ballet’s Bodytorque seasons have unearthed a wealth of choreographic talent and have become a high point in Australia’s dance calendar. During the 08 season on Saturday 23 February, a panel of prominent choreographers, dance educators, artistic directors and dance writers – Kate Champion, Tim Harbour, Maxine Kohler, Mark Annear, Deborah Jones, Valerie Lawson and David McAllister – will assemble to discuss their ideas on the future of dance in Australia in this special free forum.
Some of the topics the panel will explore are the evolution of the Australian dance scene, the function of today’s dance companies, dance training, styles, and the influences on performances in years to come. They will also discuss classical ballet and its future, cultural diversity within companies and audiences, dance education in schools and how to keep dance relevant to new generations of dancers and audiences.
