Choreolab has established itself as an important and unique event for the contemporary dance profession in New Zealand. Footnote Choreolab is a fabulous way to take time to focus on the craft of choreography and take intensive time for yourself as a dancer and as a practising artist. It provides an invaluable interface between freelance practitioners and the company dancers of Footnote Dance and also a rare chance for freelance dancers to immerse themselves in technique classes and focus on composition and collaboration.

Footnote Choreolab is designed to be an opportunity to explore choreographic processes.  We are thrilled to announce that Malia Johnston, who needs no introduction as one of New Zealand’s leading choreographic voices, will lead choreographic development sessions of exploration and research.  We are also pleased to welcome Auckland Theatre Director, Emma Willis who will collaborate with Malia on these sessions.

We are interested in proposals to be ‘lab’ choreographers from dancers who are interested in developing their own ideas and working with dancers during this time. It is always a challenge to find space and time for exploration and it is important that you indicate your interest in being a ‘lab’ leader.  Send a brief description of your idea and requirements and contact Deirdre if you would like to discuss this further. So, we are all set for another Wellington summer of personal development and the chance to be dramatic, different and to explore dance with new perspectives and challenges.
