Rise and Shine
Wake up on Tuesdays and start your day with a fabulous moving breakfast buffet. There definitely won’t be any porridge, and unfortunately there won’t be any ricotta and berry pancakes, nor any avocado and lime with bacon on toast.
Rather, there will be a moving menu: a bountiful barre, wanderlust walking, space carving, stretching and more stretching.
You know the kind of thing – a warm-up with awe-inspiring music.

Rise and shine and up and go!

Julie-Anne Long is an award winning independent dance artist based in Sydney.  Since graduating from the Victorian College of Arts in 1982 she has performed and choreographed on a wide range of projects, with companies such as Human Veins One Extra, Theatre of Image, Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Bell Shakespeare Company and Dance Works. From 1991-1996 Julie-Anne was Associate Artistic Director of One Extra Company with Artistic Director Graeme Watson. Julie-Anne was Acting Director of dance research organisation Critical Path (2006/2007) and Dance Curator at Campbelltown Arts Centre (2009/2010). Julie-Anne has recently completed a PhD at the School of English, Media and Performing Arts, UNSW.

Movement is for everyone regardless of age, ability or experience, and dance is a great way for parents to interact and bond with their children. After a mind-body connecting warm up and social dance sequence that we all do together, we learn to move from the children, exploring different levels, shapes, speeds and sizes of movements to engaging music, songs and rhymes. There will be some simple sequences that we will try together such as circle dances, locomotor movements or different rhythmic patterns, but for the most part, I will guide you into opportunities for delightful dancing and developmental movement that will leave you feeling connected to your own bodies and to each other. The classes are mostly based on a creative movement education model where simple directives allow for the greatest exploration and play, giving you just the right balance of structure and freedom.

Fridays with Nalina Wait from 9am – 10.30am
Friday 18  March – to Fri 15 April in Dance Studio B (Map Ref E9)
5 classes in total

Nalina Wait will teach a comprehensive contemporary technique class based on 'release' movement principles: anatomical alignment and efficiency, image-based support pathways, contact with the floor, soft folding joints and use of weight and breath.
These principles will be practiced while learning and performing phrases to music.  You will dance.

Nalina is a choreographer, dance filmmaker, teacher and improviser.  She has performed in Australia and internationally with Rosalind Crisp, DanceWorks, Sue Healey Co, Devastation Menu, Hans Van Den Broeck, in her own work and in many improvisational settings.
