NAYIKA INDIAN DANCE
PRESENTS
THE BLUE LOTUS
Nayika Indian Dance presents a unique cultural experience with traditional Chinese and Japanese musical instruments and Indian classical dance. Tony Wheeler and Indian musicians, with Japanese koto artist, Satsuki Odamura, and classical Indian dancer, Vimala Sarma, celebrate Chinese New Year in a concert inspired by the symbolism of the rare blue lotus.
This concert develops the theme of previous concerts inspired by the lotus, a symbol of beauty, perfection and spiritual purity in Buddhist and Hindu traditions, held during Chinese New Year for the Asian arts connoisseur. This year's motif – the Blue Lotus, symbolizes, victory of the spirit over the senses, also invokes innovation in music (the blues), and suggests the life-affirming blue Hindu God, Krishna. The lead artists, Tony Wheeler, Saksuki Odamura, using traditional Asian instruments, and dancer Vimala Sarma, supported by talented Indian musicians (Lakshmi Narendra and Bala Sankar), draw upon their respective cultures, to integrate the spiritual with the sensual.
