Integrated Workshop Information
Choreographer - Philip Channells
Philip is dedicated to the development of disability arts, focusing on an integrated and inclusive dance practice as a performer, educator and director both in Australia and the UK. In 2010, he made his directorial debut creating an intergenerational work, Next of Kin. Philip has big ambitions for the small but gutsy company called Restless Dance Theatre.
Workshop Level - Intermediate
Description
Philip will challenge and inspire dancers to look for a new and authentic quality of movement from within. Designed for artists with and without disabilities keen to explore a creative process within an integrated, inclusive environment. Suitable for people with some dance experience that are interested in developing an awareness of improvisation techniques to inform the beginnings of creating new work.
Shades of Us
Participants in the integrated workshop will work closely with Philip Channells over the 7-days to create a work that will be performed on Saturday 14 APRIL. The work is an installation dance piece performed in the Mt Penang Gardens. Shades of Us aims to reflect and enhance the spirit of the place, with its contrasting plant life, soft and harsh surfaces and sounds, and surrounding pools of water. Featuring the work of seven choreographers the work will allow audiences to engage in their own ways with notions of environment and place, and provide a physical interpretation of the Mt Penang Gardens that touches both head and heart.
Lithophytes and Epiphytes Garden
Plants that live on air, that cling to life on the side of a cliff, the drama of a murder mystery film. Harsh sounds, violins, combined with gentle winds.
