ArtStart

Calling all arts educators,

Making the move from studying in the arts to building a professional career in the arts industry can be a challenge. That’s why the ArtStart program, managed by the Australian Council for the Arts, has been created to give financial assistance of up to $10,000 to graduates, helping them make the challenging transition.

With the end of the year approaching -  and with it the time for many of your students to venture out into the professional world - help them get a career kick-start by encouraging them to visit www.artstartgrant.com.au and see if an ArtStart grant could be for them.

The fourth round of ArtStart funding opens in January 2011 making now a great time to let your graduating students know about this key career tool, so they can start planning their application over the summer.

Grants are available for artists in the visual arts, hybrid and media arts, performing arts, music, literature or in community arts and cultural development; who plan to earn income or gain employment in their field. Artstart can fund a career or small business development strategy that might include:
•    creating a portfolio of work
•    marketing yourself
•    setting up studio space
•    paying for business advice
•    disability or cultural awareness training
•    tools of trade
•    mentorship
•    and much more

There’s no age limit for applicants to ArtStart; you just need to have completed (or be about to complete) eligible arts training at Certificate IV level or above in the three years prior to the ArtStart application closing date.

There’s an array of downloadable creative material available on the website if you would like to help spread the word about this career kick-start tool for the arts.

If you have any questions or would like to encourage emerging artists then please feel free to contact us via email or through our online community at Facebook, Twitter and of course our website - www.artstartgrant.com.au
