ART START

Are you a performing artist?  Just getting started? ArtStart from the Australia Council for the Arts could be just what you need to help get your arts career thriving. ArtStart is different from other arts grants. Instead of funding individual artworks or one-off shows, it has been purpose-built to help budding artists with the challenging transition from study to having a professional career in their chosen field.

If you’ve completed an accredited Certificate IV arts course or higher in the past three years - or are about to complete one - ArtStart it could provide you with up to $10,000 to spend on pretty much anything that will help you go from studying art to earning an income from it. That’s $10,000 to spend on a portfolio; or marketing yourself; to rent rehearsal or studio space; to develop your professional network; for extra training to make you more employable; for joining associations; getting business or financial advice; and much more.

The types of artists who may apply for ArtStart is extensive. It includes: actors, dancers, comedians, circus artists, costume designers, lighting designers, set designers, sound designers, directors, puppeteers and more, as well as community arts workers and Indigenous artists.

There are two rounds of applications for ArtStart each year.
The current ArtStart grant round closes 5 October - so be quick!

Applicants must complete the application provided on the ArtStart page of the Australia Council for the Arts website.  Applicants are required to submit a proposal for how they will use the funding and to provide written references from three professional sources.
